Quality Taekwon-do Martial Arts in Mattoon, Effingham, and Charleston Illinois
"Excellent School.. wishing you even more success
Master Roberts sir."
-Master John Vennard, Bristol, United Kingdom
"Master Roberts and I came up in the same era (The 70s & 80s), when Taekwondo training instilled discipline, taught students not only how to pursue victory, but how to accept defeat with grace, and that character REALLY matters and is expected to be on display on and off the mat.
Master Roberts continues to teach these values to this day, using the best of today's techniques, and the very best of the valuable lessons of yesteryear. The results are very clear in his students, and their parents also.
Excellent students, who will make excellent friends for anyone to have, and who, have every potential to be CONTRIBUTORS to society... rather than simply oblivious spectators.
I would recommend Master Roberts to ANYONE seeking martial arts training, that is socially and morally responsible, as
safe as any contact sport can possibly be, and unerringly dedicated to training students who understand that our student oath, and code of ethics and values, is not just to be memorized, but LIVED."
-Paul Schewene, 2nd Degree, Newport Kentucky
"The Lake Land College Tae Kwon Do classes have been a wonderful experience for my family. The instructor, Mr. Kevin Roberts, is a dedicated professional who sets an excellent example for his students. I highly recommend Mr. Roberts' Tae Kwon Do class to anyone looking for the opportunity to receive the highest level of instruction for an extremely low price."
John Carpenter, Mattoon Illinois

Master Roberts started his Taekwondo training on Dec-07-1978 under Mr. Duane Connett, at Lake Land College. He was part of the original class when LLC first offered a TKD class. Classes then were more demanding, they were 2 hours long, and very few kids in the class. At the age of barely 16 years old, Master Roberts was one of the youngest in the class.
He started his Taekwondo studies (more commonly know then as Korean Karate) for reasons being he was smaller than many kids his age and when he was even younger, had difficulty in school with reading. In middle school, he decided to make a change and started weight training, that suited him well for about 3 years, then he considered Martial Arts. Little did he know, the impact it would have in his life and the lessons it would teach him. The Tenets: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, Indomitable Spirit.
Other than doing a 2+ months missionary work to HAITI in 1981, Mr. Roberts trained 3 years without missing a class. 3 years after his first lesson, he successfully tested for his 1st Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo under Mr. Phil Minton of Terre Haute Indiana in 1981. During those 3 years, Master Roberts also studied ShudoKan Karate under Mr. Terry McConnell. He attained Brown Belt in ShudoKan.
Master Roberts competed in many tournaments and placed in many of his divisions.
In 1983 he tested for his 2nd Degree Black Belt under Master Yong Duk Choi, in 1985 he tested for his 3rd Degree and tested for his 4th Degree in 1988. He reaffirmed his 4th Degree test in 2007 under Grand Master Han, Min Kyo.
Master Roberts received the "INSTRUCTOR of the YEAR" Award from the NPTA for the year 2009.
In June of 2010 (31.5 years after his first class), Master Roberts passed his test for 5th Degree Black Belt in Springfield Missouri under the NPTA.
In July of 2015 Master Roberts successfully tested for his 6th Degree Black Belt in Tulsa Oklahoma, under 8th Degree Black Belt, Sr. Chief Master Jason Wadley
In January of 2008, Master Roberts returned to Lake Land College, this time as the Senior Chief Instructor, instead of as a student. He also started competing again that same year. Master Roberts spent time in studies in the Arts of Judo, ShudoKan Karate, Hapkido and has attended many seminars in different styles & Arts. He has helped promote Taekwondo throughout the U.S.A. and has visited Instructors & Dojangs (Taekwondo schools) in the Caribbean & South East Asia.
Master Roberts continues to teach with the same traditions as in which he was taught. He understands the struggles many kids go through and can relate to them and can help them in overcoming some issues.
